WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, May 10, 2023, Xochitl Torres Small participated in a Senate Nomination Hearing. Ahead of Torres Small’s hearing, Rep. Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) wrote a letter to the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee to voice his support of the nomination of Xochitl Torres Small to serve as the next Deputy Secretary of US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — New Mexico State University received a nearly $1.7 million grant to expand internet access on campus.

The grant will not only improve internet access for family housing on campus but also expand access for certain agricultural science centers in the NMSU system.

Farmington will be first and, if funding is available, agricultural science centers at Mora and Alcalde will be next.

LAS CRUCES – Remove salt to make drinkable, usable water – that’s the mission for a federally-owned desalination research facility in Alamogordo. The Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility or BGNDRF (big-EN-dorf) grants space for companies, government agencies and researchers to pilot-test their new processes for treating with variable salinity.

Problem is, there is more than just salt in the water.

The Socorro County Board of County Commissioners made good on their commitment to support the ranching industry by contributing $100,000 to the County Livestock Loss Authority.

A Joint Powers Agreement between Socorro, Catron and Sierra counties was created last May to help protect the rights and livelihood of cattle growers in the three counties who feel threatened by the federal government’s management of the reintroduction of the endangered Mexican gray wolf.
