Immigration & Border Solutions

Rep. Vasquez is a first-generation Mexican-American who has lived on both sides of the border. Throughout his time in Congress he has championed legislation to keep our border secure, crack down on cartels in our communities, and reform a broken immigration system. Vasquez has spent countless hours in New Mexico’s borderlands — traversing the terrain on horseback, hiking through the Animas Mountains, and hearing directly from Border Patrol officials — allowing him to bring experience to Congress that few other elected officials can.
He knows that both parties have gotten immigration wrong for far too long, and he is proud to be leading the country forward with his commonsense New American Immigration Plan to supercharge our economy, protect American jobs, secure the border, and expand pathways to legal residency in a safe, humane, and cost-effective way.
His efforts to increase border security, improve the economy, and fix our broken immigration system include:
Border Security
- Led border members in a letter to DHS to advocate for real solutions to secure our borders, improve our immigration system, and uphold American values.
- Introduced bipartisan package of bills to combat cartels, including the Stop Coyotes Act and the No More Narcos Act. Both bills are supported by the Sunland Park Police Department and Las Cruces Police Department.
- Cosponsored the BEST Facilitation Act and the Advanced Border Coordination Act two bipartisan, commonsense solutions to enhance U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) cargo scanning capabilities at points of entry and improved coordination between law enforcement agencies at the southern border.
Fixing Our Broken Immigration Systems
- Introduced the Humane Accountability Act to increase transparency on detention and removals, increase oversight of detention centers, and protect constitutional rights.
- Introduced the Strengthening Our Workforce Act to provide non-citizens who pass a background check, pay a fee, and work in critical sectors — including agriculture, health care, and emergency workers — a path to lawful permanent status, bringing much-needed stability for workers who make up the backbone of the American economy.
