NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – As a contentious new U.S. Congress gets underway in Washington D.C., New Mexico’s three representatives in the U.S. House have been assigned seats on some higher profile committees on the Hill. The latest assignments for New Mexico’s three Democratic House members come as Republicans have taken control of the federal legislative chamber with a slim 222 to 214 majority in the 118th Congress.

Arizona Representative Ruben Gallego was reading Men's Journal magazine in the spring of 2021 when he came across a piece that caught his eye.

Gallego read about a Democratic city councilman in New Mexico who used to fish with his father, hunt with his grandfather, and was advocating for the protection of wildlife species at the U.S.-Mexico border after founding an organization to encourage Hispanics to access and learn about public lands and waters.

Albuquerque, NM. – Today, Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) met with community leaders across Albuquerque as part of his first district work period. Vasquez toured the Raymond G. Murphy Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center to underscore his commitment to supporting our veterans and service members. The VA System provides services to veterans and service members in the northern part of the district.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On Tuesday, New Mexico’s newest congressman got busy visiting his district.

Rep. Gabe Vasquez spent his first day focusing on small businesses. He spent time with the folks over at the South Valley Economic Development Center — a nonprofit that’s aimed at helping local entrepreneurs grow. 

“We’re firm believers that New Mexicans have, you know, the solutions to all of our challenges here in the state,” said Jayme Chester, director of operations for SVEDC. 

Chester and others from SVEDC sat down with Vasquez.
