U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (N.M.-02) joined Tribal educators and leaders at Laguna Elementary School to discuss his leadership of the bipartisan Parity for Tribal Educators Act that aims to address the ongoing teacher shortage in Indian Country. The bill provides teachers and staff at Tribally-controlled schools with the same federal retirement benefits as their counterparts at Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools.

U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez visited the Albuquerque Police Department's Real Time Crime Center to discuss initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety in Albuquerque and talk about Vasquez's efforts to secure federal funding for the center. During the visit, Vasquez met with Deputy Chief J.J. Griego to tour the facility and learn more about its role in improving officer response and crime prevention capabilities.

The New Mexican Delegation of Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Lujan and Representatives Teresa Leger Fernandez, Melanie Stansbury, and Gabe Vasquez have spoken in support of a $16.6 million dollar award for the state from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

This financial support is going to New Mexican organizations that assist the customs and border protection agency in maintaining order at the border.

One of the priorities in this move is to help asylum seekers who are lawfully processed into the United States.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, August 29, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (N.M.-02) sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack demanding accountability for unacceptable delays of food deliveries to New Mexico Tribes by the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR).

Both the U.S. House and Senate are in summer recess which means the members of Congress are holding events such as roundtables and tours in New Mexico.

Events are planned for the next few weeks including events last week with Rep. Gabe Vasquez, a Democrat representing the state’s 2nd Congressional District, visiting Carlsbad and Hobbs.

Vasquez went to Carlsbad where, aside from visiting Carlsbad Caverns for its 100th anniversary, he held an energy workers roundtable.
