Rep. Gabe Vasquez Secures Over $11 Million to Address Homelessness in New Mexico
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On January 21, 2025, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) announced he secured over $11.4 million in federal funding to support critical homelessness assistance programs in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District. These grants, awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Continuum of Care program, will provide essential resources to address housing instability and homelessness in the district.
“As someone deeply committed to ensuring that every New Mexican has a safe place to call home, I am proud to see over $11 million in federal funds secured for my district to address homelessness across our state,” said Vasquez. “In particular, these resources will bolster projects in our district, such as Community of Hope and Valencia Shelter Services for Victims of Domestic Violence, which provide critical support for families and individuals facing housing instability. These investments reaffirm our dedication to tackling homelessness head-on and building stronger, more supportive communities.”
HUD’s Continuum of Care program is the largest federal initiative addressing homelessness. It provides grants to nonprofit providers, states, Tribes and local governments to support rapid rehousing, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing and services for survivors of domestic violence and youth experiencing homelessness.
“We at Valencia Shelter Services are profoundly grateful for this generous contribution to our Safe At Home Program,” said Stephanie Wood, Executive Director of Valencia Shelter Services. “This funding empowers us to provide critical housing support for survivors of domestic violence, ensuring they have access to a safe, stable environment to rebuild their lives. Together, we are breaking the cycle of violence and offering hope to those who need it most.”
“Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless is grateful to Congressman Gabe Vasquez for securing federal funding to support coordinated entry and supportive housing programs,” said Jenny Metzler, CEO of Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless. “These funds will help ensure that individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque have access to the health care, housing and support services they need to achieve stability and thrive. Congressman Vasquez’s commitment to addressing homelessness is helping us create lasting solutions and strengthen our communities. We look forward to the transformative changes this funding will bring to the lives of those we serve.”
This funding is part of Vasquez’s continued efforts to deliver federal resources that directly benefit New Mexican families by addressing critical challenges like homelessness and housing instability.
