FY24 Community Projects
Listed below is a summary of the 15 projects Congressman Vasquez submitted to the House Appropriations Committee for FY24, along with each project's recipient, requested amount and required financial disclosure letter. The projects are listed in alphabetical order. Members are restricted to only 15 Community Project Submissions.
In compliance with House Rules and Committee requirements, Congressman Vasquez has certified that he and his immediate family have no financial interest in any of the projects he has requested.

FY24 Submitted Projects
Atrisco Vista Boulevard Improvement Project

Amount Funded: $4,000,000
Project Description: The funding would be used for the reconstruction of a 2.35 mile stretch of Atrisco Vista Boulevard to facilitate economic development that has the potential to bring 13,000 jobs to the area. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will advance economic development for the local community and support new investments and job growth.

Bayard Wastewater Systems Improvement Project

Amount Funded: $959,752
Project Description: This project will fund the construction of wastewater system improvements to repair and replace broken and outdated equipment and deteriorated infrastructure for residents of the City of Bayard and surrounding communities. This project is a good use of taxpayer dollars because wastewater collection and treatment is essential for protection of public health and the prevention of water pollution. The regional facility provides wastewater treatment for Bayard, Hurley, Santa Clara, Ft. Bayard State Hospital and North Hurley.

Boys and Girls Club of Las Cruces Renovation Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the renovation of a facility that will include space for after-school activities, learning, and other programming. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it provides a safe location for youth in Las Cruces to learn, grow, and develop skills needed to be successful in life.

Columbus Wastewater System Improvement Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the improvement of a wastewater treatment facility. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will mitigate a public health hazard given the current facilities state of disrepair and frequent overflowing.

Double Eagle Watermain Replacement Project
Recipient: City of Carlsbad
Address: 101 N. Halagueno Rd. Carlsbad, NM 88221
Amount Funded: $959,752
Project Description: This project will replace the existing water lines in the Double Eagle well field in Carlsbad. The current system is losing 12 million gallons of water per year. This project will increase water sustainability and provide potable water to local agriculture users, residents, and businesses. This project is a valuable use of taxpayer dollars because it ensures reliable access to clean drinking water.

Gila Community Center Improvement Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the construction of a new community center in Gila, a rural town. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will provide the city with an upgraded community meeting center that will the communities needs for a meeting place for everything from youth groups weekly food distribution.

Grant County I-10 Improvement Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the re-paving of nine miles of Interstate 10 in southwest New Mexico. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will improve roadway safety and on a heavily trafficked trade and tourism route across the American southwest.

Hatch Food Pantry Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the construction of a permanent food pantry in the rural community of Hatch, NM. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will help reduce food insecurity and help low-income families access healthy meals.

Isleta Pueblo Fire Protection Vehicle Acquisition Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the acquisition of a new fire protection vehicle for the Pueblo of Isleta. This vehicle will be used to protect the community from wildfires and other major fire events. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will greatly enhance public safety.

Lift Up Las Cruces Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for new streetlights and public infrastructure improvements like ADA ramps and new sidewalks. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will improve public safety by providing safe pedestrian access and improved lighting to increase the safety of nighttime transportation.

Lordsburg Community Center Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for renovation of a community center originally constructed in the 1980s. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it provides residents of the rural community a gathering place for events, meetings, and other programs.

Luna Mobile Command Center Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the acquisition of a mobile command unit to facilitate better response to public safety incidents. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will increase public safety and ensure first responders are equipped to respond to a variety of incidents and potential threats.

NMDPS's Communication Improvement Project
Recipient: New Mexico Department of Public Safety

Amount Funded: $800,000
Project Description: This project would secure handheld radios and satellite communication technology to help improve law enforcement communication in rural communities. This is a good use of taxpayer funds because it will allow first responders to have reliable communications when responding to emergencies in remote and rural areas that currently lack sufficient cell coverage.

Sierra County Emergency Operations Center Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the construction of a dedicated emergency operations center in Truth or Consequences. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will ensure that first responders are coordinated in response to any disasters or large-scale emergencies, and it will contribute to public safety across the district.

South Valley Economic Development Center Expansion Project

Project Description: The funding would be used for the construction of an agricultural economic development center to help increase job growth in this sector. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will help small businesses in New Mexico’s agricultural industry grow their business which in turn helps New Mexican farms and ranches access new markets.
