Vasquez Statement on the Safe Return of Hostages, Support for a Ceasefire

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, November 16, 2023, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) released the following statement on reported negotiations for the release of hostages, delivery of humanitarian aid and an initial ceasefire:

“I support working towards a ceasefire agreement that includes the safe return of all hostages and the delivery of critical humanitarian aid. We cannot tolerate or condone acts of violence or terrorism that threaten peace, stability, and the lives of innocent people worldwide. I strongly condemn Hamas and its actions that have brought suffering to Israeli and Palestinian communities.

“We need to find immediate solutions that ensure a lasting, effective ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the safety of Israel and countless innocent Gazans. We have lost too many innocent lives. 

“As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I stand in support of the Administration’s diplomatic efforts to end the violence and loss of innocent civilians’ lives. A ceasefire should serve to lay the groundwork for meaningful, effective negotiations that must take place now to ensure Palestinians and Israelis can live safely in a peaceful future.”
