Vasquez Statement on House Resolution 684

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) shared the following statement ahead of the House floor vote on House Resolution 684.

“I plan to vote yes on the resolution. 

“As a responsible gun owner, I will continue to support common sense solutions that reduce gun violence, such as the Bipartisan Background Check Act and Ethan’s Law, in addition to the proposals we need to support in the state of New Mexico, like the Bennie Hargrove Gun Safety Act. We must produce constitutional, legal and enforceable solutions that will help protect our children and our families. 

“However, we should all be equally concerned that the Republican-controlled House is on the verge of a government shutdown because of its internal chaos and inability to govern. We can’t pass any laws in this Congress if they can’t function. The Republican majority should focus on funding the government for our veterans, seniors, and Medicaid recipients who will lose vital services. 

“It’s time we put voters, regardless of party, ahead of dysfunction that does nothing to help the people of New Mexico.”
