Vasquez Secures $3.65 Million Grant to Improve Health Care for the Pueblo of Isleta
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, February 9, 2024 U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) announced that he secured $3.65 million to improve and expand the Pueblo of Isleta’s Health Center to not only enhance the patient experience but also strengthen the Health Center’s ability to provide quality healthcare services to the greater Pueblo community.
“Tribally-operated health facilities do not receive the funding and support they need to provide the best health care for their communities, which is why I’m especially proud to announce $3.65 million to expand the Pueblo of Isleta Health Center,” said Vasquez. “This investment will enable the Health Center to address growing demands for health services and provide added capacity necessary to provide quality service.”
The Indian Health Service (IHS) awarded $3,650,000 in funding to the Pueblo of Isleta as a part of the Small Ambulatory Program, which invests in the ambulatory healthcare facilities of tribes and tribal organizations to support culturally competent, quality healthcare. This IHS funding will expand the Pueblo of Isleta Health Center facility to accommodate growing patient needs and improve overall access to outpatient healthcare services, including emergency medical services and pharmacy services.
“The Small Ambulatory Program funding represents a significant and transformative opportunity for the Pueblo of Isleta and its Health Center,” said Governor Zuni of the Pueblo of Isleta. “The funding will enable the Pueblo to address several critical areas to address growing patient needs. These improvements will not only enhance the patient experience but also bolster the Health Center’s ability to provide high quality healthcare services to the greater Isleta Pueblo community.”
In August 2023, Vasquez also worked to bring home $2.25 million for the Pueblo of Isleta’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
Vasquez remains committed to securing more vital infrastructure investments for the Tribes and Pueblos in New Mexico’s second congressional district.
