Team Vasquez Hosts Webinar to Enable Communities to Successfully Apply for Federal Funding

March 29, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, March 28, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02) officehosted the webinar Empowering Communities: A Webinar Guide to Successful Grants and Funding to help local organizations request and obtain critical funding. In the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 appropriations process, Vasquez will continue work to prioritize funding for programs that directly impact New Mexicans.

“I want to ensure that organizations and communities of all sizes have access to the opportunities to apply for federal funding, especially in our rural and Tribal areas,” said Vasquez. “Our office stands by, ready to provide technical assistance to nonprofits, local governments, Tribal governments and the state to ensure that New Mexico receives its fair share of taxpayer dollars.

Vasquez’s Chief of Staff, Adela Amador, and Grants Coordinator, Greg Knadle, provided key insights into the federal funding process, including best practices for securing federal investments. Ensuring New Mexico is not forgotten is one of Vasquez’s top priorities.

After securing nearly $14 million in funding for FY24 for 15 projects that prioritize public safety, job growth and ensuring access to clean water and improved wastewater systems, Vasquez has recently opened the application process for FY25. FY24 was the first time New Mexico’s second district participated in the Community Project Funding (CPF) process to secure investments for the district.

Beginning in FY21, the House Appropriations Committee began accepting Community Project Funding requests to directly appropriate federal funding to specific projects in local communities that fit certain criteria. Members may request funding for specific projects in their communities, so long as the projects have a federal nexus and meet other requirements established by federal law, House Rules and the Committee to ensure only high-quality projects are requested and funded. The deadline for CPF requests is April 5, 2024 at 5:00 PM MT.
