Rep. Vasquez Secures $96 Million to Build New Alamo Navajo Health Center

October 2, 2026

With HHS grant, Alamo Navajo Chapter will build a new, technologically advanced health center in their community

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) secured $96 million in federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to build a new, technologically advanced health center at the Alamo Navajo Chapter. The health center will serve over 2,600 Tribal residents living in the communities of Alamo, Magdalena, and Socorro.

“This $96 million investment is a major step toward ensuring the Alamo Navajo community has access to the quality health care it deserves,” said Vasquez. “For too long, Tribal communities have been denied access to reliable healthcare – being forced to drive incredibly long distances and go to great lengths just to see a doctor. This project will bring care closer to home, and I’m proud to deliver this funding and will continue working to ensure the federal government is serving New Mexico’s Tribal communities.”

The $96 million award will support the construction of a new 70,000 gross square feet (GSF) health center and will be a modern, state-of-the-art, advanced facility to provide health care services specifically designed to meet the needs of the Alamo Navajo Chapter.

This funding comes from the Interior Appropriations bill, which passed with strong bipartisan support. Congressman Vasquez also secured key funding and resources for New Mexico in the bill, including $1,092,000 for the Ramah Navajo Drinking Water Improvement project and over $3 million in projects to improve public safety and infrastructure in Southern New Mexico.

Vasquez has consistently worked to support New Mexico’s Tribal communities:
