Rep. Vasquez Secures $4 Million Federal Grant to Launch Las Cruces–El Paso Express Bus Service
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) secured a $4 million Federal Transit Administration grant for the South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD) to launch a new Las Cruces–El Paso Hybrid Express Bus Service. This award, one of SCRTD’s largest and most competitive federal grants to date, will connect southern New Mexico communities with fast, reliable, and environmentally sustainable transit.
The new limited-stop express service will link Las Cruces, Anthony, Sunland Park, and the El Paso Downtown Transit Center, with future plans to extend to the El Paso International Airport. SCRTD is already moving forward with service planning, bus procurement, and driver training, keeping the Las Cruces–El Paso Express on track for an imminent launch.
“This new bus service isn’t just about transportation, it’s about connecting communities, creating local jobs, and providing smart, reliable transit for our families,” said Rep. Gabe Vasquez. “I worked to make sure southern New Mexico received this investment because our communities deserve tangible investments that improve daily life and strengthen our regional economy.”
“This grant provides the resources to operate a new bus service that will connect Las Cruces with Sunland Park and the El Paso International Airport,” said David Armijo, Executive Director of SCRTD. “This is a vital link between these communities, providing transportation to the people who rely on it most.”
Rep. Vasquez remains committed to delivering practical solutions to make life easier for New Mexicans. Projects like this build a stronger, more connected future for the region.
