Rep. Vasquez Appointed to Two Key Leadership Roles

March 14, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) was appointed to serve as the Vice Chair of the Workforce Development Task Force for the New Democrat Coalition and the Vice Ranking Member of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee for the House Armed Services Committee.

“I’m committed to working with anyone–regardless of party–to grow our economy and bring more good-paying jobs to New Mexico’s second district. I came to Washington to get things done, and that can’t happen if we don’t work together. That’s why I’m so excited to have a leadership role in these two important bodies,” said Rep. Vasquez.

As Vice Chair of the Workforce Development Task Force, Vasquez will help lead the New Democratic Coalition’s bipartisan approach to workforce development policy. The New Democrat Coalition is committed to intelligent governing and breaking through the gridlock in Washington, D.C.

Additionally, his role as Vice Ranking Member of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee will allow him to ensure that New Mexico continues to be a leader in our country’s national security by designing and preparing the country’s cutting-edge weapons research and nuclear programs. As the number two ranking Democrat on the subcommittee, Vasquez will have direct oversight and input on key research, development and state-of-the-art testing in New Mexico.

“New Mexico’s research labs and military bases create high-paying jobs and bolster our national security,” said Rep. Vasquez. “I believe that if you can research it in New Mexico, test it in New Mexico, then you can build it in New Mexico. We must take full advantage of the cutting-edge research and development at places like Sandia National Laboratories and White Sands Missile Range and expand to manufacturing, tech-transfer and more. As a leader on the subcommittee, I will work to expand these opportunities to create more jobs and support our national defense.”
