Rep. Gabe Vasquez’s Statement on Voting to Protect American Energy Production

March 20, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, March 20, 2024, U.S. RepresentativeGabe Vasquez (N.M.-02) shared the following statement following his vote to pass the Protecting American Energy Production Act:

“In every decision I make, I prioritize New Mexico’s second congressional district. That’s why I voted to pass the Protecting American Energy Production Act, which would require moratoriums on the use of hydraulic fracturing to be authorized by an Act of Congress.

“Keeping Congress in the process ensures that States continue to be included in the regulation of hydraulic fracturing. As we work towards a cleaner future, we need to simultaneously protect New Mexican workers who rely on the industry to provide for their families, and their members of Congress do that best.

“That’s why I am so proud to have secured a $63 million federal investment to construct two medium—and heavy-duty commercial electric truck charging stations along Interstate 10 (I-10). The construction of two EV charging centers along I-10 is critical to spurring economic growth and promoting infrastructure made in America.”
