ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Today, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) touted job creation and economic development in New Mexico’s second district in two press conferences celebrating Amazon’s new fulfillment center in Los Lunas and federal funding he secured for Atrisco Vista Boulevard.

At a press conference at Atrisco Vista Boulevard, Vasquez announced $4 million in federal funding secured for the improvement project through Community Project Funding. This investment will support increasing public safety and generate an estimated 13,000 good-paying jobs to support Albuquerque’s West Side.

“Last year, I toured this site with County Commission Chair Barbara Baca. I was inspired by the county’s vision for Atrisco Vista Boulevard’s future, and what it represents for our community — a new path for a previously underserved, but growing part of Albuquerque,” said Vasquez. “Today, we are one step closer to that vision as I am proud to announce $4 million in funding that will go directly to Atrisco Vista Boulevard. By putting politics aside, we are going to see tangible benefits, including 13,000 new good-paying jobs and revitalized infrastructure.”

The Atrisco Vista Boulevard project is part of a broader effort to attract businesses and improve public safety in the area. Vasquez emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in driving local economic growth, citing the expansion of a new film studio and investments in Double Eagle Airport as examples of how federal support can catalyze development. Vasquez was joined at the press conference by regional and national leaders of the Department of Housing and Urban Development as well as State Senator Harold Pope Jr., County Commission Chair Barbara Baca, State Representative Joy Garratt and other local leaders.

Earlier in the day in Los Lunas, Vasquez celebrated the grand opening of Amazon’s second fulfillment center in New Mexico.

“Amazon is the latest in a string of national employers bringing their businesses to New Mexico and giving our gente a brighter future. This center will employ more than 1,000 New Mexicans, putting food on the table for our families and putting New Mexico on the national stage - ready to compete, ready for success and ready for change,” said Vasquez during the press conference. “I’m working to build a stronger, more prosperous New Mexico, where our communities can grow and thrive, and I will continue to work together to bring more opportunities, more innovation and more success to our great state.”

Vasquez also highlighted the strategic importance of federal investments in infrastructure, such as the I-40 Tradeport, which he has championed as a critical component of New Mexico’s economic future. The Tradeport aims to establish New Mexico as a central hub for trade, attracting national and international markets and driving further job creation across the state.

As Vasquez continues to advocate for federal support and partnerships that benefit New Mexico, he remains committed to ensuring that all communities—from Albuquerque to Las Cruces to Carlsbad—are positioned to share in the economic prosperity Community Project Funding and other investments bring to the district.
