Rep. Gabe Vasquez Marks Four Years Since Roe v. Wade Was Overturned, Announces Support for Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act

June 24, 2026

Four years ago today, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending American women’s constitutional right to abortion after 49 years

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Four years ago today, on June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court issued the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision, overturning Roe v. Wade and ending the constitutional right to abortion. Since then, MAGA extremists have continued their assault on women’s reproductive rights across the country, with extreme Republican lawmakers repeatedly attacking access to abortion medication and contraception and attempting to rollback rights nationwide through the courts and Congress in recent months. To mark the milestone anniversary of this devastating court ruling, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) shared the below statement and announced his support of the Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act, a bill to protect women’s access to abortion medication, including mifepristone.

“Four years after Roe was overturned, women are still paying the price for extremists’ attacks on reproductive freedom,” said Vasquez. “Abortion is health care, and politicians have no business making these deeply personal decisions for women and their families. Every woman deserves the freedom to make her own health care decisions in consultation with her doctor and guided by her own faith and values — not the government’s. I’m proud to support legislation protecting access to abortion medication, and I’ll never stop fighting to defend women’s rights and reproductive freedom.”

The Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act safeguards access to medication abortion by reaffirming the Food and Drug Administration's longstanding approval of mifepristone, which has been safely used for more than 25 years. The bill also protects health care providers' ability to prescribe medication abortion through telehealth and allows patients to receive the medication by mail, helping ensure people can access care regardless of where they live.

Rep. Vasquez is firmly committed to protecting reproductive freedom in this country and has consistently voted to protect women’s right to make their own health care decisions in consultation with their doctors and their faith, including:

  • Rep. Vasquez supported the Women’s Health Protection Act (H.R. 12), which protects a woman's right to make her own reproductive health care decisions and ensures health care providers can continue offering abortion care without politicians standing between patients and their doctors. The bill also protects the right to travel to another state to receive abortion care, helping ensure women can still access care even if it is unavailable where they live.
  • Rep. Vasquez championed the Right to Contraception Act (H.R. 999), which safeguards an individual’s right to access and use contraceptives and ensures health care providers can offer contraception and related services without political interference.
  • Rep. Vasquez backed H.Res. 238, which affirms that every person has a basic right to emergency health care – including abortion care – and reinforces federal protections so patients and doctors can make lifesaving decisions without fear or confusion.
