Rep. Gabe Vasquez Demands Answers on Postal Service Hiking P.O. Box Prices in Rural New Mexico
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (N.M.-02) sent a letter to Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, demanding answers regarding the unreasonable price increases of up to 35 percent for Post Office (P.O.) Box rentals across the district.
“I represent one of the largest congressional districts in the country and many of my constituents live far from essential services and with limited access to the internet. In these areas, reliable mail service is critical” stated Vasquez in his letter. “I have heard from many of my constituents that they are struggling to afford these yearly increases. For those on fixed incomes, especially seniors, continued price increases are unsustainable. I am dedicated to ensuring that all of my constituents can continue to reliably and affordably receive their mail.”
Eleven of the district’s fourteen counties are in rural areas and depend on reasonable U.S. Postal Service prices to stay connected and receive essential services. Vasquez will continue to advocate for lower postal prices and will pursue all necessary avenues to ensure fairness and accessibility in P.O. Box prices.
