Rep. Gabe Vasquez Calls on Administration to Focus on Lowering Costs for Americans Instead of Spending Taxpayer Funds on Israeli War in Lebanon

June 29, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 29, 2026, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio urging the Administration to bring the conflict in southern Lebanon to an end and to stop spending taxpayer dollars on foreign wars that don’t put Americans first As prices continue to rise for New Mexico families, Rep. Vasquez has pushed the Administration to redirect that spending to lower the cost of healthcare, gas, and housing instead of on conflicts overseas.

On April 16, 2026, the Administration negotiated a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, but Israeli and Hezbollah forces have continued to violate the agreement multiple times. The letter strongly condemns violence against civilians in all forms and calls for the conflicts to be ended swiftly.

“The systematic destruction of protected civilian infrastructure and the violence against innocent civilians is unacceptable,” said Vasquez. “This Administration negotiated a ceasefire months ago and has since let the fighting continue without any oversight — all on top of wasting billions on a war with Iran. Americans are tired of seeing their tax dollars used to fund foreign wars, especially ones killing civilians overseas.”

As the only member of the New Mexican Delegation on the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Vasquez supported the following amendments to end the war in Iran and to oppose the expansion of U.S.-Israeli military partnerships:

  • Cosponsored and voted for an amendment expressing a sense of disapproval for the war in Iran and calling for an end to this senseless conflict.
  • Voted for an amendment to strip language from the NDAA which would strengthen U.S.-Israeli military security cooperation on the taxpayer dime.
